We’re changing how we deliver support to SecureDrop users

September 10, 2025

To simplify the support experience and meet SecureDrop journalists and admins where they already are, we are transitioning away from the Redmine support platform and to dedicated Signal groups for support instead.

Using Signal makes it easier to share photos and attachments, schedule video calls, and reach us from mobile devices without compromising security and privacy. It also allows us to share more timely responses.

If you are currently enrolled in our support portal at support.freedom.press, we encourage you to respond to the corresponding migration ticket with a list of Signal usernames. Then we will establish the groups for you. If you are already in a Signal group with us, you don’t need to take further action.

The transition from Redmine to Signal is expected to be completed on Nov. 3, 2025. Between now and then, SecureDrop users are welcome to contact us on either platform. Beginning Nov. 3, Redmine will no longer be available, and all support inquiries will need to be sent via the Signal group.

As always, any information you send us remains private and confidential. Messages sent via Signal are end-to-end encrypted using one of the most respected implementations available. We will maintain notes on issues you report to help us spot trends and preserve historical context. Those notes will be stored on an internal platform only accessible to a select group of Freedom of the Press Foundation (FPF) employees. Sensitive details about your specific SecureDrop instance will remain private, and will not be shared with or made available to any third parties.
