Release Announcement

SecureDrop Inbox 1.0.0 released

April 28, 2026
SecureDrop Inbox Main View

We are proud to announce the inaugural release of SecureDrop Inbox, version 1.0.0.

The new Inbox replaces the previous SecureDrop Client on the SecureDrop Workstation, and includes a number of highly requested features, like full-text search, pausing and resuming downloads, and keyboard navigation, as well as significant performance improvements. For an overview of all the new features, check out our recent blog post.

SecureDrop Inbox is the culmination of nearly a year of effort to rewrite our client application from the ground up. For more details about the motivation behind this work, see our companion post.

The Inbox will automatically be installed as part of your regular preflight updates. When first launched, the Inbox will need to perform a complete sync with the server, which may take some time, depending on how much information is stored on your server. Regardless, it is safe to close the Inbox even if it hasn’t finished syncing; it’ll resume automatically when you next open it.

If you do encounter any bugs or issues in the new Inbox, please contact SecureDrop support via Signal so we can make sure to address them.

In case you encounter any major issues, the legacy Client will still be available as a fallback option for one month. It can be opened by going to Qubes Menu â–¸ Gear Icon â–¸ Other â–¸ SecureDrop Client (legacy). Note that the Client and Inbox sync and download data independently; any data you download in the Inbox will have to be downloaded again in the Client, if you choose to use it, and vice versa.

We will also keep you updated on specific dates and other details through your Signal Group.
