Release Announcement

SecureDrop Workstation 1.2.0 released

May 13, 2025

We are proud to announce that SecureDrop Workstation 1.2.0 and SecureDrop Client 0.15.0 have both been released. This release comes with two major improvements: better printing support and download progress bars.

A better printing experience

SecureDrop Workstation now uses the Internet Printing Protocol, better known as AirPrint, over USB, allowing for a large selection of modern printers. No joke, thousands of printers are now compatible; however, we recommend trying to find one with no wireless support for extra security. Check out our revised documentation for more details and guidance.

One minor downside: This removes support for one of our previously recommended printers. If you are using the Brother HL-L2320D that we had previously recommended during our pilot phase, you will need to switch to an IPP-compatible printer.

In addition to the expanded hardware support, the printing experience should be nicer too, as we’re now using a modern print dialog that should be similar to what you’re used to on other computers.

Download progress bars

We’ve implemented one of our longest-standing requests from users, which is to display progress while downloading a file. You’ll now know that your download is actually continuing and not stalled.
